Covid-19 Ag Antigenic Self-Testing Kit

A rapid antigen nasal swab home self-test to determine ongoing infection with SARS-CoV-2

The Eurobio ESB SARS-Cov-2 Test in an antigen lateral flow self-test designed and developed to help with rapid diagnosis of COVID-19 disease. About 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 do not have symptoms but can still infect others. If people test positive and self-isolate, it helps stop the virus spreading. Even if you are vaccinated, there is still a chance you can pass COVID-19 on, so you should keep getting tested regularly.

The test is simple, completely safe to perform and does not require any special equipment or professional training. The sample is collected with nasal swab and the results available after only 10 minutes.

Everything you need for the test is included in the kit, including easy to follow instructions, and nasal swab to take the sample.

To take the test simply:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water
  • Open the box, which contains an aluminium pouch with test cassette, bottle with extraction, nasal swab, and an instruction leaflet. Open the pouch with the swab, take it by the plastic end and carefully insert it vertically 2-3 cm into your nostril. Twist the swab 5 times. Repeat it for the second nostril.
  • Test the sample immediately after swabbing your nose. Insert the swab into extraction tube and twist the swab inside at least 6 times.
  • Remove the swab from the tube and close it with the provided nozzle cap
  • Place two drops from the extraction tube in the sample well of the cassette
  • Read the results after 10 minutes (no later than 20 minutes)
  • Use the instruction guide to interpret the results.
  • Pack the test into ma plastic bag, seal it and dispose the test with general household waste

About COVID-19

COVID-19 is the disease caused by a new coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. WHO first learned of this new virus on 31 December 2019, following a report of a cluster of cases of ‘viral pneumonia’ in Wuhan, People’s Republic of China. The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

Symptoms of COVID-19

  • A high temperature - if you feel hot to touch in your chest or back
  • A new, continuous cough - it could be coughing for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours.
  • A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste - if you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different than usual.

On average it takes 5–6 days from when someone is infected with the virus for symptoms to show, however it can take up to 14 days.

Covid-19 Self-Testing Kit – Frequently Asked Questions

Who can use the test?

This test is to be used only by adults or under adult supervision for people from 15years old who are asymptomatic.

Is it important for the test components to be sterile?

Yes. For example, if your drop the swab on the floor you must use another one. The test is accurate only if the sample is not contaminated.

What does positive result mean?

The SARS-CoV-2 antigen is detectable in the acute phase of infection. Positive result indicates the presence of viral antigens. It does not exclude bacterial infection or co-existing infection with other viruses. If you receive a positive result you should avoid contact with others and seek to confirm the result with a laboratory PCR test. Contact your GP if your symptoms progress or in case of any unusual symptoms.

What does negative result mean?

A negative result may be observed if the antigen level in the sample is below the detection limit of the test (or if the sample was collected incorrectly). Negative result should not be used as the sole basis for decisions about treatment, including infection control measures. Negative result should be considered in the context of recent exposures, medical history, and the presence of clinical signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19. If your symptoms persist, repeat the test and contact your GP for further advice.

Is it Ok to take the swab from only one nostril?

No, the test is accurate if you take the sample from both nostrils.

What can influence the validity of the result?

Failure to follow the test instructions may affect test performance and potentially invalidate its results. False negative result may occur if:

  • incorrect number of drops from the extraction tube were added into test cassette,
  • the sample is tested more than an hour after collection,
  • the swab is returned to its paper wrapper between collection and extraction.

How accurate is this test?

The sensitivity and diagnostic specificity of the EBS SARS-CoV-2 Ag Rapid Test was determined by evaluating in a study 244 clinical samples, including 119 PCR positive samples and 124 PCR negative samples for COVID 19. The EBS SARS-CoV-2 Ag Rapid Test was used to analyse clinical samples and compare test reagent results with clinical diagnostic results.

The test results gave the following results:

  • Diagnostic specificity: 99.20%
  • Diagnostic sensitivity: 93.28%
